This IS Breed Specific Legislation

This blog contains strong wording and upsetting images. Please do not allow children to view unless you have viewed first and are happy for these images to be seen.

When you hear  the words "Breed specific legislation" what picture springs to mind? A pit bull type? A police officer? A judge? BSL is a disease. It spreads fear and panic among dog owners and a false sense of safety to the general public. Its spreads and it kills those caught up in its wake. This is BSL.

These are pictures of just one load of dogs that Denver has rounded up and killed as part of their breed ban. "Well," you might say, "dogs are killed every day in shelters across the land." Yes, they are and it is all awful. But these were dogs who had homes. These were owned dogs that got picked up and killed for what they look like, not for anything they did. Underneath this pile of dead dogs, but not shown, were something like twelve puppies that were not even weaned yet. The photographer wanted to show them, but didn't have the heart to move the bodies of the adults around to show the puppies. Either way, this is how a breed ban manifests itself--in the rounding up and killing family dogs.

These dogs are Denvers lost souls but the same is happening around the world. Most who read this will be in the U.K. Well newsflash people, these pictures may as well be here.Shocking isnt it? Its time to stop BSL now. Help us to fight back before your dog gets its five minutes of fame as the the pup at the top of a stack of dead bodies.

BSL Kills. It you dont stand for something you will fall for everything and the mindless killing of pups like this one will continue. See http://www.ddawatch.co.uk/ for more information on how you can help in the UK.

  1. I had a nightmare last night that I had some of these dogs running around me, in particular the brown pub. I was trying to justify to the police why these dogs should stay alive, they were laughing. I woke up feeling so sad for these dogs. It's so disturbing, do these killers sleep soundly at night.... yes they do!!!

  2. This is the perfect case of people being so closed minded. It makes me sick. Do you know what breed of dog actually bites more people? The tiny poodle. Why do they think that eradicating any one breed of dog will solve the stupid, idiocrosy of people. It's not the dog, but how we raise them. I know alot of very sweet natured Rotties and Pits, that would never hurt anybody. It makes me ashamed of the human race to see such things.

  3. Why would you go into someones house and kill there dog? Its sick. I am an owner of three dogs and if anyone tried to take them from me then they would go through me. I may be small but i would die for my dogs and this upset me so much. Humanity is going really weird and i am just sorry for all the sad doggies out there. When I am older I promise to help you. x

  6. This makes me sick. It's dogs now, so people don't make a big deal of it, which it is. But let's look ahead a little bit. What if these were humans? What if we killed a race of humans because of the crimes of a few? This needs to stop. It makes me so angry that these dogs are being killed not through anything that is their fault, but because of the stupidity of their owners/breeders. A pit or rottie is just as likely to bite as any other breed. The only reason they have a bad rep is because people either abuse them and raise them to be aggressive, or because they are bred poorly and become inbred and stupid. We need to bring this to light and stop it. NOW.

  7. That is so sad. I have been a victim of the breed ban thing once in my life. I lost 2 wonderful dogs and my kids and myself grieved over our dogs and still think of them at times. I recently rescued a bulldog and she is wonderful. I just wish people would give these dogs a chance. Not all are mean and the ones that are it is their owners fault. It is just sad to see this breed being killed everyday.

  8. What makes this photo any different than the multitudes of other dogs and cats being killed in pounds. About 15 million kittens, cats, dogs and puppies, die a year in pounds all across the country. Pit bull zealots are only concerned for pit bulls and nothing else like they don't even exist.

  9. Personally, I think that this is discusting and really no different than Hitler wanting all the Jews and most of Europeans dead. Of coarse the pittys cant stick up for themselves. I have 2 Pitbulls and they are the biggest sucks and wouldnt hurt anyone (for no reason)

  11. This is awful! Someone has got to stop this merciless killing of dogs. It's not the dogs....it is the owners! They are the one's who should be put down. Staffies are lovely, gutsy amiable dogs, unless in the hands of unscrupulous humans. I feel sick at the needless execution of what could be faithful and loving companions to humane humans.

What makes it different is that these dogs are being targeted for extermination based purely on their breed. A handful of attacks by these breeds seems to make this OK in a lot of people's eyes despite the majority being loving, loyal animals. Why not target Poodles, Yorkshire Terriers and Chihuahuas then? They may have a less powerful bite, but all of these breeds are more aggressive. As for the comment about not caring about other animals being put down, I don't like to see any animal put down, but I happen to own a Staffie and she is the most gentle dog I have ever owned. I have three kids under three and she absolutely dotes on them, even to the extent that if they are ill she will lie next to them and keep them warm. The thought that she could be taken and destroyed purely because of her breed sickens me. This is a great injustice and needs to be stopped NOW.

  13. i lost my beloved pitbull over four years ago and i still miss her dearly, since then i trained four puppies of diffrent breeds thinking that my young family (my daughter was born just after we lost cheeka) would be better off being spared the hatred i faced down just for having a pitbull, hatred for no reason but what my dog looked like. i have since had to rehome one dog for aggression towards my daughter it was a cocker spaniel and two because of allergy issues, now we still have the minschnauzer and you guessed it i got a pitbull, and she is awsome with my kids and with our little dog and with everyone. i decided my kids are better off knowing first hand the greatness of the breed and learning to stand up to the ignorance arround us. we love our pitty and my heart breaks for the dogs that are senslessly destroyed and the people greiving their loss. we speak out against genoside in other countries and then commit canine geniside ourselves, where has our country gone?

  14. In the name of god what, is that a pit bull killing spree. Even though many people criticize the breeding of this kind of dogs just because everybody things they are dangerous, no one have the right to commit this kind of atrocity. Peace and love is my what I think mostly love from the soul and the body Generic Viagra

  15. i have a pitbull who wouldnt hurt a fly she is such a good faithful loyal dog and i would kill whoever tries to take her away from me or my family... how did they just walk in and take these families dogs without getting the crap kicked out of them? that would be like somone coming in your house and trying to take your son or daughter.

  16. THIS IS EXACTLY WHY WE HAD POSTERS THAT SAID...'SPAY-DON'T LITTER'. breeders and irresponsible owners need to know the outcome of the dogs. they are disposed of like garbage and who really cares? WE DO, but no one does anything and they keep breeding and let them run the streets...FIX the animals! NOT just pitbulls. this should be passed out to all people in your community to remind them of what happens when they allow animals to roam. so very, very sad.

  19. I am a proud Pittbull owner and will never own another breed of dog. I have never owned a dog more gentle and loyal. This is horrible and should be stopped. I hate to see any dog put down. Shelters is one thing, but these were peoples pets and friends, they did nothing wrong, and paid with their lives. Why did they not have the right to live? If you own a dog, look at them and tell me they dont have a personality and feelings dont deserve to enjoy life , does this mean I can do around town and start killing everything I dont like?
